New Naval Museum Could Find Home in North Chicago
The proposed $40 million facility near the Great Lakes Naval Station would honor enlisted sailors and anchor a city entertainment district.

North Chicago, IL—A proposed $40 million national museum for enlisted sailors could become the anchor for a new entertainment district in North Chicago, the Daily Herald reports.

The National Museum of the American Sailor would be constructed on an old industrial site by Gate 4 at the Great Lakes Naval Station, the report stated. The proposed 40,00-square-foot facility would exclusively honor enlisted sailors and feature exhibits, an auditorium, a gift shop and a special gallery display some of the U.S. Navy's 19,000 works donated by Abbott Laboratories, the report added.

Developers hope the museum will be the first step in attracting hotels, a movie theater and other businesses to the northwest corner of Sheridan Road and Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, the Herald reports.
