No Third Term for Lake Forest Mayor

City Council drops ordinance that would extend the city mayor's time in office.

Residents of Lake Forest will not have the chance to vote on a measure that would extend the mayor’s time in office to six years.

After preparing an ordinance that would be placed on the ballot for voters, the City Council pulled the measure that would extend the tenure of the city mayor to three two-year terms instead of two, according to the Daily North Shore.

Mayor Donald Schoenheider said it was withdrawn from consideration before it came up at the most recent Council meeting.

“The council believes we were not in a position to present it to the voters,” Schoenheider said. “We made that decision after further discussion.”
