The highly anticipated, October 4th luncheon will begin at 11:30 am, with a silent auction, wine pull and drawings, followed by the program at 1:15 pm. The program will feature Leslie Goddard, an award winning dramatist and scholar who brings history to life with her mise-en-scène historical portrayals. Goddard will portray Alice Paul, who was the most dynamic leader in the fight to win votes for American women. An innovative and tireless worker, Paul arranged spectacular parades, organized the first picketing demonstrations ever held outside the White House, lobbied politicians, and endured imprisonment for women’s suffrage. As fearless as she was pioneering, she remains an icon in the struggle for equal rights – winning votes for women.

Proceeds from this benefit extend to organizations whose purposes expressly align with DAR’s mission of promoting education, historic preservation and patriotic endeavor. The chapter has a long, proud history of outstanding leadership and service to the National Society and to the community, since the 1st Illinois State regent, Mrs. Laura Dayton Fessenden, organized this chapter in April 20, 1893. It is with pride that North Shore Daughters continue to honor their patriot ancestors with a tradition of community and national service.
Said Willard Helander, chapter regent, "Our Benefit Chair, Stephanie Garrity, and her committee have a delightful afternoon planned. North Shore Chapter members, guests and friends have a wonderful time while supporting DAR endeavors to facilitate historic preservation, education and patriotism, especially honoring our veterans."
