North Suburban YMCA Gymnasts Open Season with Success

Level 3 gymnasts take first place at Leeda's Island Adventure AAU meet on January 10.

Young gymnasts from the North Suburban YMCA brought home first-place honors from their first AAU competition of the year. The Leenda’s Island Adventure Meet, held in Gurnee on January 8-10, launched the athletes into a promising season.

The NSYMCA’s Level 3 gymnasts, including Chesine Ciota, Ashley Brown, Natalie Schneider, Laurel Speed, Ashley Uhlig, Cassie Johnston, and Jenna Freund, won first place at the meet. Meanwhile, the Level 4 team of Zena Abdelhamid, Sarah Gordon, Lauren Stinchcomb, and Josie Sobecks placed third overall for their level. Level 6 gymnasts Julie Masloski and Sophie Rogoff also contributed strong performances.

The NSYMCA Competitive Gymnastics team is now entering its fourth season of AAU League competition. Last year, the team earned 11 individual event championship medals and included three all-around age group champions. The Y also offers an extensive developmental gymnastics program for children beginning as early as age two.
