Northwestern Lake Forest Hospital is one of 30 in Illinois to meet national high performing standards, according to the U.S. News and World Report’s annual rankings released Tuesday.
Lake Forest Hospital tied with several others for the No. 19 slot in Illinois.
Illinois has about 220 hospitals. U.S. News and World Report sifted through data for nearly 5,000 hospitals and results from surveys of more than 140,000 physicians to rank the best centers in 16 adult specialties from cancer to urology.

Lake Forest was No. 16 in the Chicago metro area, trailing medical centers in Evanston, Barrington and Park Ridge - among others.
According to the report, Northwestern Lake Forest Hospital “is a general medical and surgical hospital in Lake Forest with 188 beds.

“Survey data for the latest year available shows that 51,860 patients visited the hospital’s emergency room. The hospital had a total of 9,306 admissions. Its physicians performed 1,901 inpatient and 6,187 outpatient surgeries.”
