Obituary: Margaretta Connell Lane, 101
A memorial service will be held Wednesday at Lake Forest Place for the former aide to one of the founders of the CIA.

Margaretta Connell Lane, 101, died quietly on June 8, 2018 at her home at Lake Forest Place, Lake Forest, IL. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 56 years, Charles A. Lane. She is survived by her son, Charles A. Lane, Jr (The Rev. Wendy), two granddaughters, Lucy C. Lane and Hilary D. Lane, and two great-grandsons, Jack and Cal Wonham.
Margaretta grew up in Richmond Hill, New York and went through school there. She enjoyed two years at Brooklyn College, then began a career working under WB Donovan, later known as “Wild Bill,” the father of the OSS, subsequently the CIA.
In 1939, she married her husband and became the consummate corporate wife, moving with each promotion and making a beautiful home for her family in each new city.

Margaretta enjoyed bridge, golf, bowling, and curling and made new friends with each activity. She volunteered at Lake Forest Hospital and at Balmoral when she moved to Lake Forest Place.
She and her husband were active members of the Knollwood Club in Lake Forest and enjoyed traveling the world.

The Lane family appreciates the wonderful care and comfort given to Margaretta by the entire staff at assisted living, especially her personal caregivers Angella, Paulette, Jehan, Carman, and Dahlian.
There will be a memorial service at Lake Forest Place at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, June 13.
In lieu of flowers, donations to The Church of the Holy Spirit, 400 East Westminster, Lake Forest, IL 60045 will be appreciated.
