Open House Kicks Off Fall Programs At Gorton
Gorton Community Center is showcasing its new programs and plans for the fall on Sunday afternoon.

From Gorton Community Center: Gorton Community Center is the gathering place in the heart of our community where people connect, converse, learn, listen, play, and perform. To this end, Gorton has expanded its portfolio of programming to truly offer something for everyone this fall.
On Sunday, August 26 from 2:00 – 4:00pm, Gorton will host an open house to showcase its programs for the remainder of the year. Instructors will be on site to share details about how the classes will unfold. This program open house is a first for the community center. There will be popcorn and a FREE raffle for a variety of prizes. “We invite the community to stop by and see for themselves all of the exciting things happening at Gorton,” says Libby Johnson, Gorton’s program director. “We’ve made it our goal to provide classes, workshops and experiences that will appeal to men and women and boys and girls of all ages.”
Gorton is offering a number of new classes this fall:
Wiggleworms—Gorton has partnered with Old Town School of Folk Music to offer their celebrated early childhood program, which welcomes young children and their families to a magical, musical world.
Mandarin Performance Class with Bilingual Rock Immersion—This new class is an opportunity for Mandarin students to expand their language skills by learning a variety of art, music, science, math and drama in Mandarin.
Girl Power! Nutrition and Yoga for Teens—Molly O’Neil of mPowering Health will conduct peer group health coaching and make energizing recipes that help balance mood, increase energy and fuel your body. Jen Buettner of JB Mindful will introduce the benefits and empower the group to be able to practice on their own. This class is for 13- 16 year old girls who are interested in learning more about living a healthy life.
Personal Growth in Cinema with Victor Aronovich—If you’re one of those people who loves to watch and discuss movies, this class is for you. Each week you will watch numerous scenes from Oscar-winning films and examine how cinema has always been fascinated by personal growth themes. This class is designed to help the audience develop an informed and practical understanding of how the issues of personal growth have been portrayed by different filmmakers.
