Own a Downstate Hunting Farm for $4.7 Million

River Bend Farm, which includes 800 acres of hunting in Ramsey, Illinois, is the most extensive of its kind in the state.

Potter, head of the Max McGraw Wildlife Conservation Wildlife Foundation whose father was president of the Union Stockyards and is a descendant of former Chicago Mayor William Ogden, says River Bend Farm, a 1,000-acre hunting farm is a rarity in Illinois, according to Crain’s Chicago.

“This kind of place isn’t unheard of in Idaho or Montana,” Potter said, “but in Illinois it’s the only one.” While there are other hunting farms in the state, Potter said this has the most extensive grooming of its land. He assembled the farm by connecting five parcels of land he purchased more than a decade ago.

He then developed the populations of deer, pheasants and waterfowl on about 800 acres of the property for hunting. Farmland takes up the other 200 acres. A log cabin-style home on the site can sleep up to 10 people.
