Pregnant Woman Was Stabbed Before She Was Found Floating In Lake Michigan, Authorities Say
After dozens of tips from the public, detectives have identified a "Lake Michigan Jane Doe" as a missing 19-year-old Chicago woman.

WAUKEGAN, IL — Investigators believe the pregnant woman whose body was found floating in Lake Michigan earlier this month is a missing 19-year-old Chicago woman.
An autopsy showed evidence of multiple stab wounds, and detectives are investigating her death as a homicide, according to the Lake County Sheriff's Office.
A fisherman discovered her body floating in the water in a pink summer dress about 3 miles southeast of Waukegan Harbor on the afternoon of Aug. 15, sheriff's office spokesperson Lt. Chris Covelli said last week.

The woman was about six or seven months pregnant at the time of her death, and could have been floating in the lake for seven to 12 days before her body was found, according to Covelli.
The sheriff's office who released a sketch artist's rendering of what the woman may have looked like and received dozens of tips from the public about her possible identity.

On Friday, Covelli said detectives are confident that they have identified their "Lake Michigan Jane Doe" as a 19-year-old Chicago woman who was reported missing several days before the discovery of the body.

Authorities are not publicly releasing that woman's identity until her death is confirmed officially and her family members are notified.
The Lake County Coroner's Office is comparing the missing woman's dental records with the body, according to the sheriff's office.
Coroner Jennifer Banek told Patch an autopsy conducted the day after the woman's body was retrieved from the lake showed evidence of drowning and multiple lacerations. The cause and manner of her death have yet to be released.
