Safe Wristbands Created as Part of Lake Forest High School's Incubator Class

Group of juniors creates GPS technology to alert patrol when user is in trouble.

As part of the innovative ‘Incubator’ class at Lake Forest High School, some students have launched their own companies to sell products similarly created out of the originality of bright young minds.

For LFHS juniors Joey Franklin, Emma DeNoble, Jaxon Mills and Sheridan Weiss, the project paved way for the creation of a wristband that ensures the safety of skiers. The small, durable wristband uses GPS technology to keep track of the user at all times. The band is paired with an easy-to-use app and, connected with ski patrol, provides the ultimate protection from the dangers associated with skiing, snowboarding or any other activity.

“If you’re skiing with a group you can connect each band through an app and locate your friends or family members,” said Franklin, CO-CEO of Safetech Wristbands. “If you’re by yourself, you can alert ski patrol in case of an emergency.”

The group has created a website for the product, with a background video available and a survey to provide feedback. Help them out by taking the survey here.

According to the site, SafeTech wristbands are “an easy and carefree way to ensure the safety and enjoyment of your family and friends, wherever you are.”

The group is also testing out a similar product, CollegeBand, which similarly will be a wristband allowing college students to alert authorities immediately if they are in danger. Help them out by letting them know what you think.

UPDATE: This group took the idea a step further, offering a protection device for female students through SafeTech, a new company created by the group.

From the group:

“Did you know that one out of four girls will be raped during their college years? We are SafeTech and we are creating an app that will quickly connect them to campus security in order to intervene and protect the student in harms way. Campuses that use our app to keep students protected and will have an edge on their competition by advertising their safe campus. Our goal is to decrease the amount of attempted and successful sexual assaults on college students.

College Band is a fashionable bracelet for any college kid. It uses GPS technology to immediately alert college campus security if you are in danger. A safe and fashionable way to ensure full enjoyment during your college years.”
