Skeletal Remains Found In Wooded Area
A man on a Wednesday afternoon walk in Waukegan reported the remains, police said.

WAUKEGAN, IL — A man discovered skeletal remains while walking in a wooded area Wednesday afternoon, police said.
Waukegan Police say the man called around 4:30 p.m. to report he had possibly found human remains in the woods near 10th Street and South Lewis, near the northeast portion of the Greenbelt Forest Preserve. The Criminal Investigation Division has opened a case and begun an investigation of the discovery, police said.
Investigators were on the scene Thursday continuing to collect evidence. A forensic anthropologist would be needed to determine the age and sex of the remains, according to the Lake County Coroner.

It's likely the body had been decomposing in the woods for months, if not longer, said police. The finding was likely made possibly by lack of shrubbery on the ground, according to police.
"It’s one of those things that the weather and the time of year probably did play a factor to the citizen walking through the area,” Waukegan Police Cmdr. Joe Florip told CBS 2.
