Starbucks in Market Square Will Sell Beer, Wine

Liquor licenses approved for new Starbucks location on Western Ave.

The Lake Forest City Council voted 6-1 to approve two liquor licenses for the new location planned on the east side of town, according to the Daily North Shore.

Alderman Michael Adelman cast the lone dissenting vote, questioning why alcohol would be served at a coffee shop.

“What happens when Jimmy Johns wants to sell a beer with a sandwich on a hot day,” he said. “This is a coffee house. Why does a coffee house need a liquor license? Where do we draw the line? I can’t support this.”

Alcohol will be served from 4-9 p.m. at the Western Avenue location once it opens.

The Seattle-based coffee giant’s “Evenings” program aims to add a more festive night-time atmosphere by offering additional food items in addition to alcohol. More than 50 Starbucks locations in Chicagoland participate, including ones in Deerfield, Winnetka and Wilmette.
