"Stormwater: From the Ground UP" sponsored by the League of Women Voters

Hear from experts how to protect your yard from damages caused by excessive stormwater. Take a tour, enter to win a rain barrel.

Why do we experience floods? The League of Women Voters - Lake Forest/Lake Bluff Area is sponsoring a program “Stormwater: From the Ground Up” to answer this and many other questions. Find out Sunday, September 14th, at the Central Lake County Joint Action Water Agency (JAWA), 200 Rockland Rd., Lake Bluff from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. Take a water plant tour, hear from experts, and win a rain barrel!

What can we all do? Learn from expert speakers: Sandy Hart, Lake County Board Member and Stormwater Commission Rep, Larry McCotter of Lake Bluff Open Lands, and Melissa Olenick and Bill Soucie of the Joint Action Water Agency in Lake Bluff. Krista Grimm of the League of Women Voters will introduce the subject.

When pesticides, fertilizers, and road chemicals flow into our drainage systems and ravines, and on to Lake Michigan, it’s a problem for everyone. Learn the tools for healthy communities, such as bioswales near roadways. When stormwater runoff overwhelms our sewers, flooding yards and neighborhoods, it’s a personal concern, close to home. Fortunately, some solutions can be implemented by individuals, like a rain garden for your yard.
