Sunset Foods Begins Remodel, Food Drive

Sunset Foods Lake Forest location to get wine bar, other new features.

LAKE FOREST, IL — Sunset Foods announced last week it will begin a remodel of its Lake Forest location while participating alongside the Boy Scouts in the largest food drive in Northern Illinois.

The Scouting for Food begins Saturday, while the redesign of the 825 South Waukegan Road grocery store will also begin in early April, the company said.

All Sunset locations serving as as collection points for food donations during this time as part of the Scouting for Food program, which teaches Scouts the importance of volunteerism and reducing food insecurity.

“Locally-owned businesses build strong communities,” says Thaddeus Tazioli, Vice President of Marketing at Sunset Foods. “Sunset is committed to helping struggling families in the communities we serve.”

The store also promised to expand its selection of in-store dining options and local products in Lake Forest. It said each element of the remodeling project was intended to "enhace the entire shopping experience," according to an announcement.

"We’re always seeking to innovate and improve,” said John Cortesi, Sunset Foods’ president and CEO.

“Coupled with Sunset’s tradition of exemplary customer service, this remodel will allow Sunset to create a shopping environment that truly stands out… we’re thrilled to continue to invest in this location and the larger Lake Forest community.”

The store touted the following new features planned for its Lake Forest location:

  • New hot and cold food bars for quick, quality snacking and meals
  • “just juiced” and fresh smoothie station
  • cheese island featuring fresh-cut, premium cheeses
  • smokehouse program that prepares smoked-to-order meats on-site
  • gourmet sandwich station
  • wine and craft beer bar
  • fresh sushi bar
  • in-store floral shop for custom designs and arrangements

Sunset Foods said it was staying open during the remodel and promised to "do everything possible to make this a seamless transition."

Boy Scouts will also be in stores next week promoting the Scouting for Food program in stores. Scouts will be available to answer questions at Sunset Foods Highland Park and Northbrook from 11am-2pm on Saturday, April 1st, and at Sunset Foods Lake Forest, Long Grove, and Libertyville from 11am-2pm on Saturday, April 8th.
