Train Station Underpass Will Have to Wait
Federal funding for need at Lake Forest's west side train station won't be coming in time for June bidding date.

Funding for a long-needed pedestrian underpass at Lake Forest’s west side train station’s southwest side on Telegraph Road has stalled, the Lake Forester reports.
Federal Highway Administration grants that would be necessary to pay for the construction will not be coming in time a June 15 bidding date, a time City Manager Bob Kiely recently told the Lake Forest-Lake Bluff Chamber of Commerce that would be targeted to begin the project.
“We thought there was a good chance for some federal funding, but the money will not be available for the scheduled June bidding,” said Robert Ells, an engineering supervisor for the city. “We don’t know if it will be available at all. That doesn’t mean all hope is lost. So we have a project, but we just don’t have money.”

Separate $1 million grants have been given to the city from the state and federal government for the project, but Kiely informed the Forester that some of that money “has already been spent on engineering design work.”
