Vernon Township to Host Narcan Training November 16

Vernon Township’s Community Mental Health Board will be hosting a free Narcan training on Thursday, November 16 at 7:30 p.m. in the Township’s Community Service Building, located at 2900 N. Main Street in Buffalo Grove. The event is presented by the Lake County Opioid Task Force’s “A Way Out” Program.

Narcan, otherwise known as Naloxone, can save the life of someone who is suffering from an opioid drug overdose by reversing its effects. Opioids include some prescription medications, heroin, fentanyl and any drug that contains any amount of fentanyl. More than 250,000 U.S. residents have died from a fentanyl overdose since 2018 and 23% of these deaths occurred in Illinois.

“I encourage residents to attend this free event to prevent deaths resulting from opioid overdoses,” said Township Mental Health Board President Noelle Moore. “Narcan is a non-addictive, life saving medication that anyone is able to utilize.”

The Lake County Opioid Task Force’s “A Way Out” Program helps community members get connected to substance abuse treatment regardless of lack of insurance or financial resources.
