Waukegan Man Charged After Getting Shot By Police
Police said he showed up at the police station in a stolen car and tried to rob a cop with a fake gun.

WAUKEGAN, IL — A man shot by police after trying to rob an officer with a fake gun was released from the hospital and booked into the Lake County Jail Tuesday, police said.
Edward Prado, 27, of Waukegan, was driving a stolen car around 5 p.m. on Dec. 26 when he pulled up to an officer sitting in a marked squad car next to the police station in the 100 block of North West Street, according to police.
Prado allegedly pulled out what looked like a black semi-automatic handgun and demanded the cop hand over his gun.

The officer declined, shooting Prado an undisclosed number of times instead, according to police.
Police said it turned out Prado was trying to rob the uniformed cop with a BB gun. He was taken to a local hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

Prado has been charged with aggravated robbery, attempting to disarm a police officer, aggravated assault and possession of a stolen vehicle, according to police. His next court appearance is scheduled for Feb. 7.
Illinois State Police, which investigates every time police shoot someone, continues to probe the shooting.
UPDATE: The ISP and the Lake County State's Attorney's Office investigation in the shooting found that the officer was justified in his decision to use deadly force and released bodycam footage of the incident.
