The modern Mexican cuisine just north of Market Square in downtown Lake Forest won praise for its fish tacos and great service.

"They brought sparklers for our anniversary," one reader recalled.

Gerhard's Elegant European Desserts, 720 N. Western Ave., Lake Forest

Readers praised the outstanding baked treats and excellent service at the 27-year staple of Market Square businesses.

"Think 'Cheers'," one reader said, "meets best-of-the-best culinary treats."

Maevery Public House, 20 E Scranton Ave, Lake Bluff

For more than seven years, Maevery has offered "elevated American" cuisine and classic cocktails at the downtown Lake Bluff. One reader recalled a great New Year's Eve spent at Maevery's several years ago.

Beyond local restaurants, Citadel Theater emerged as the top spot among readers for a romantic date in town.
