Women and Transitional Justice Topic of Sept. 25 Woodlands Academy Forum

Colleen Murphy, Ph.D., will discuss the "Role of Women in Transitional Justice" Monday, Sept. 25, at Woodlands Academy in Lake Forest.

College professor and author Colleen Murphy, Ph.D., returns to her high school alma mater to discuss the “Role of Women in Transitional Justice.” This informative program will be presented Monday, Sept. 25, from noon to 1:30 p.m. in the Gloria Dei Center on the Woodlands Academy of the Sacred Heart campus, 760 E. Westleigh Road, Lake Forest, IL 60045. Tickets are $20 each, and lunch is included.

Transitional Justice is an approach to systematic violations of human rights that both provides redress to victims and creates/enhances opportunities for the transformation of political systems, conflicts and other conditions that may have been at the root of the abuses.

Murphy is a professor in the College of Law and the departments of Philosophy and Political Science at the University of Illinois/Urbana-Champaign, director of the Women and Gender in Global Perspectives Program in International Programs and Studies, and affiliate faculty of the Beckman Institute.
