Zion Man Fatally Shot In His Home In 'Targeted' Killing: Police

Authorities said a 31-year-old man was inside his home when someone fired several rounds from outside Friday morning.

ZION, IL — Someone shot and killed a Zion man in his home Friday, according to the Lake County Major Crimes Task Force.

Che Hearn, 31, was inside his home in the 1700 block of Joanna Avenue when an unidentified shooter walked up and opened fire from outside, according to the task force and the Lake County Coroner's Office.

Officers were dispatched to a call of gunfire around 7:30 a.m., authorities said. Hearn was found critically injured and rushed to Vista Medical Center East, where he was later pronounced dead.

Preliminary autopsy results indicate Hearn died from a gunshot wound to the chest, according to the coroner's office.

Investigators believe it was a targeted killing, according to task force spokesperson Chris Covelli.
