Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center Named Among Greenest Hospitals in America
The list honors hospitals for adopting practices and policies that are environmentally friendly.

Chicago, Ill.-- Recognized for embracing initiatives to reduce the environmental footprint in our communities, Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center has been named one of the 60 greenest hospitals in America by Becker’s Hospital Review.
“Our community members face so many challenging issues, beyond healing and recovery. As a mission-oriented health care organization, we are dedicated to improving the health and wellness of our patients, and that includes adopting environmentally friendly practices,” says Susan Nordstrom Lopez, president of Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center. “This achievement would not be possible without the commitment of our physicians, nurses and associates, all of whom center their work around the well-being of our patients, their families and the community we share.”
Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center was named the first hospital in Chicagoland to receive Energy STAR certification. The hospital continues their commitment to sustainability to through the completion of the Center for Advanced Care, a LEED Silver certified green building, and through surgical device reprocessing savings.

Demonstrating the depth and breadth of sustainable practices throughout the health system, six Advocate hospitals were named to the list. In addition to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn; Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove; Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington; Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge; and Advocate Trinity Hospital in Chicago were awarded the honor.
Advocate Health Care also received the Practice Greenhealth System for Change Award in 2017, the ninth consecutive year the system has been recognized for achieving environmental solutions in the health care sector and creating better, safer, greener workplaces and communities.

To compile the list, the Becker's Hospital Review editorial team considered nominations and conducted editorial research, looking at awards won from Practice Greenhealth, the U.S. Green Building Council, the American Society for Healthcare Engineering and the Environmental Protection Agency.
