Animal Helper Needs A Little Help
Veterinary technician Jen Ciesla helps injured dogs and now she needs some financial help with her own dog.

Wina is a mischievous young pitbull who belongs to veterinary technician Jenny Ciesla and she works at MedVet on Clybourn by Belmont and Western in Lakeview. Jenny had to bring Wina to her MedVet office on October 24th for vomiting and lethargy and it didn't completely surprise her since Wina has a history of eating things that she shouldn't.
Her friend and co-worker Stephanie Sullivan says: "Jenny assumed that while she was out of town, Wina may have chewed something up and was possibly obstructed. Wina's tail was still wagging that morning but you could tell she wasn't her goofy, hyper self. Dr. Ashley Gold signed her up for an abdominal ultrasound and she stayed with us awaiting her turn. Busy, as MedVet usually is, her ultrasound happened late in the day and there were no abnormal findings."
Unfortunately, Wina was visibly uncomfortable and much worse by the end of the day. Stephanie continues: "At that time, we decided to check some labwork. Wina's chemistry returned and showed marked kidney and liver failure. This was suspected to be secondary to leptosporosis - a bacterial infection spread through the urine of infected animals. Wina was hospitalized and started on IV fluids, antibiotics, antiemetics, and a nasogastric feeding tube was place to help supplement nutrition."

Wina eventually improved and she was discharged so she's now recovering at home, but the only new problem is the cost involved - $8200 - even with her discount. Stephanie says: "She will return to MedVet periodically over the next few months to have her kidney and liver values evaluated. Jenny and our team could not be more thrilled that she pulled through!"
It will take a long time - and many personal sacrifices - for Jenny to pay $8200. Stephanie adds: "Anyone who knows Jenny Ciesla knows what a good heart she has. She would make a GoFundMe for me if I was in her position, as she would for anyone she cares about. Her dogs are her children and she would go above and beyond for them, which she has immensely. Any donation, big or small, would be greatly appreciated to help take the burden off Jenny at this time. Thank you in advance for your kindness and please keep Wina in your thoughts and prayers."
