The protest that will end at Wrigley Field. The event coincides with the first day of Lollapalooza.

CHICAGO, IL — A group is planning an anti-violence protest next week on North Lake Shore Drive. The protest is scheduled for 4 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 2, organizers said. The group plans to march along Lake Shore Drive near Belmont Avenue and then make their way to Wrigley Field, according to the organizations Coalition for a New Chicago and Violence Interrupters.

The Cubs have a home game against the San Diego Padres scheduled that day at 7:05 p.m. Lollapalooza will also be getting underway in Grant Park.

The group held a press conference Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Wrigley Field to announce their protest. They said they won't be asking city officials for permission to march on Lake Shore Drive. The group plans to march along the northbound lanes to Clark Street, then to Wrigley Field. The march also coincides with the first day of Lollapalooza in Chicago.

Earlier this month, hundreds of protesters marched on the Dan Ryan Expressway, forcing police to temporarily shut down all northbound lanes.

A Facebook post by the Coalition for a New Chicago used a hashtag to refer to Officer Robert Rialmo, the Chicago cop who fatally shot 19-year-old Quintonio LeGrier and 55-year-old Bettie Jones in 2015, and has faced scrutiny over his alleged involvement in bar fights. Another hashtag on the post referred to Harith Augustus, a popular South Shore barber fatally shot by police earlier this month.
