Are Bob Newhart and Lance Briggs the Best Celebrity Cubs Fans?
The comedian and the ex-NFL player go online to show their support of the team in entertaining fashion.
CHICAGO, IL — While you were in front of the TV late Tuesday night complaining how you can keep staying up late to watch the Chicago Cubs rattle off playoff wins in dramatic fashion, an 87-year-old fan was on Twitter making you look like a whiny baby with a saggy diaper that leaks.
Comedian and Oak Park native Bob Newhart posted a photo of himself holding up a "W" flag to celebrate Chicago's win over over the San Francisco Giants on Tuesday, the image of a triumphant Aroldis Chapman on the TV in the background.
"Cubs, I am 87 and I am getting too old for this," he wrote.

(All right, his tweet was a tiny gripe about the lateness of the game, but remember: He's 87. What's your excuse? Plus, who knew Newhart was on Twitter?)
Newhart is one of the many celebrities — Eddie Vedder, John Cusak, Vince Vaughn and patron saint of celeb Cubs fans, Bill Murray — showing their support for the Cubbies this postseason. And thanks to social media, many of them have been making it a habit to publicly root for the North Siders while the games are happening real time.

But when it comes to the Cheering Styles of the Rich and Famous, it's hard to top former Chicago Bears pro-bowler Lance Briggs. Reading his Twitter feed during the game is almost as entertaining as watching the game itself.
During the National League Division Series, Briggs not only did the traditional rah-rahing …

In bursts of about 140 characters, Briggs provided a humorous snapshot of the roller-coaster ups and downs of Cubs fandom this past week. Which, yes, means he bemoaned how exhausting the last two late-night affairs have been.

A word of advice, though, if you plan to follow Briggs during the NL Championship Series: Make sure you know what time it is before asking him your fantasy football questions.
