Ascension Saint Joseph - Chicago adds new Chief Financial Officer

Ryan Southcomb will rejoin the organization having previously served at sites in Joliet and Kankakee

Ascension Illinois is excited to announce that Ryan Southcomb will rejoin the market as Chief Financial Officer of Ascension Saint Joseph - Chicago. He previously served as CFO of our market’s former hospitals in Joliet and Kankakee prior to their divestiture.

Southcomb rejoins Ascension Illinois from Prime Healthcare, where he was serving as Regional CFO. Southcomb brings more than a decade of leadership experience, as well as a strong background in operational finance, budgeting, forecasting, and data analytics. He has been recognized for his ability to collaborate effectively with clinical and operational leaders to help support performance improvement across various areas, including productivity, labor management, revenue cycle, and capital planning.

Southcomb holds an MBA from the University of Saint Francis, and previously earned an undergraduate degree from Lewis University in Romeoville, Ill.

Before earning his CFO role, Southcomb served in numerous other capacities, including regional finance manager, senior financial analyst, and business manager for Patient Care Services at Saint Joseph – Joliet.

“I am incredibly excited to rejoin Ascension Illinois and return to an organization whose Mission and values have always strongly aligned with my own,” Southcomb said. “I look forward to bringing my experience back to the ministry, partnering with the physicians, associates and leaders at Saint Joseph - Chicago, and helping advance Ascension’s commitment to compassionate, high-quality care for the communities we serve.”

Southcomb joins the Chicago hospital at a time when it is earning regular awards across different clinical specialties. In the last year, the American College of Surgeons’ National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers awarded an accreditation to Saint Joseph, labeling the hospital’s breast center as an ACS Surgical Quality Partner. The hospital also received a national surgical recognition in mastectomy surgery from Castle Connolly, was named a Blue Distinction Center by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois for its knee and hip replacement program, and earned placement on Forbes’ inaugural list of top hospitals for 2026
