Bond Denied For Man Charged With Attempted Murder In CTA Attack

New details have emerged about the Belmont Red Line attack in Lake View.

CHICAGO, IL — A man was peeing on CTA tracks on the North Side when a woman snapped a photo of him and told him not to do that, according to a report. He then punched the woman and caused her to fall onto the tracks, police said. The man was charged with attempted murder earlier this week, and was denied bond during a Wednesday hearing at the Leighton Criminal Court Building.

The attack happened on the Belmont Station platform on Sunday just after 4 p.m., police said. Prosecutors said that after the photo was taken, the two argued briefly and the man told her he was going to kill her, according to a report by the Chicago Tribune.

When she turned away from him, the man punched her from behind, causing her to fall down onto the tracks, according to police.
