East Lake View Streets & Neighborhood Are NOT FOR SALE

April 5, 2013

Mayor Emanuel:

As residents in the East Lake View community, we have  several major concerns regarding the renovations of Wrigley Field:

  1. We have never received full disclosure of the requests associated with the renovations from the owners; including:
    • Signage – dimensions, locations, hours of operation (if digitized), how it will impact local residents and businesses, etc.
    • Street closings, using our public way for private “Chicago Cubs only” for-profit events
    • Exact number of night games and events per season, what time constitutes a night game, 6:00 pm game starts or concerts, or later?
    • Length and terms of any agreement
    • A detailed outline of the proposed 5-year construction broken down year by year.
    • DETAILS in writing from the Chicago Cubs of all aspect of the construction proposal, including heights, dimensions,
timelines, traffic impacts, parking impacts, construction, street closures, etc (both for Wrigley Field as well as their hotel proposal where McDonalds is located on the NW corner of Addison & Clark.

  • Neighborhood representation during the negotiations to voice the concerns of the residents, and also support our Alderman, Tom Tunney, as he tries to support our views and interests.
  • We currently have an agreement, in the form of an ordinance, with the Chicago Cubs organization that does not expire until 2015. We do not want any changes to the current ordinance to take place to prior to its expiration.  We recognize the urgency of the Cubs wanting a deal in place by April 2013; however, improvements to the interior of the ballpark can begin this fall without concessions from the community. Maintaining a safe building is the responsibility of every property owner in the city.

  • This is OUR community. We live here 365 days each year, not just 81 days a year. We want a viable, vibrant community that people want to live in year-round and to maintain our property values and quality of life.

Increasing the encroachment of the  Chicago Cubs on the residential and business community interests negatively impacts the interests of the residents and voters.
While people say we knew there was a ballpark in the neighborhood when we
moved here, we say the Rickets family also knew they were buying a ballpark in
the middle of a neighborhood community when they bought here.
