Cancer Survivors Celebrated at Annual Hospital Event

The event was coordinated as part of National Cancer Survivorship Day.

Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center hosted “Strike Out Cancer,” its annual event celebrating the lives of cancer survivors and their families.

The event took place at the hospital’s Creticos Cancer Center, where physicians and staff planned an entire afternoon of activities, beginning with a walk around the hospital campus led by Santosh Yajnik, a radiation oncologist at Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center.

Guests also enjoyed yoga and Bollywood sessions, a nutrition class and massage therapy. Following the activities, guests enjoyed lunch and heard from several survivors who shared their stories and messages of hope.

“We like to arrange fun activities that promote health for all of our participants, but it is witnessing newly diagnosed patients connect with long-term survivors that makes this day so special,” says Colleen Hallock, survivorship coordinator at Creticos Cancer Center.
