Cops Release Video of Thieves Wanted In Connection To Doggy Day Care Van Theft

Chicago police have released surveillance video of two suspects wanted in connection to the doggy day care van that was stolen Wednesday afternoon with six dogs inside it.

The video shows two men walking calmly toward silver minivan owned by the professional pet care service Urban Out Sitters, where it was left running, but unattended in the 800 block of West Superior around 3:45 p.m. Wednesday.

The suspects easily open the driver and front passenger doors and climb inside. Both men appear to be unaware that the back of the van is filled with dogs.

Before shifting the van into reverse, it shifts forward brushing the side of a building. The van pulls out and quickly drives away.

Police say that shortly after the suspects drove off, a male witness attempted to intervene when one of the men drew a gun and pointed it at him. The video does not show witness confronting the suspects.

The witness subsequently disengaged and the suspects fled the scene.

Police found the van around 11 a.m. Thursday in the 2100 block of South Wabash Avenue in Chicago’s Chinatown neighborhood.

A Good Samaritan walking by the van Thursday morning noticed a dog sitting in the front seat and called police, one of the missing dogs’ owners told Patch.

All of the dogs were accounted for and appeared to be in good condition, police said.

Chicago Police are asking for the public’s help in identifying and locating the suspects. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact Area Central Detectives at 312-747-8380.
