CTA Sued By Rider Who Says Defective Brakes Made Him Fall On Bus
Lawsuit claims man suffered "severe and permanent" injuries when he was thrown to floor of Broadway bus.

A man is suing the Chicago Transit Authority over claims that he was injured while riding a bus with malfunctioning brakes.
Walter Badon filed a civil suit in Cook County Circuit Court on May 18 against the CTA, claiming he was knocked to the floor of a bus when it came to a sudden stop.
Baden said he was riding the CTA bus on May 20, 2014. The bus was traveling north on Broadway and was nearing Montrose Avenue when it came to sudden stop. Baden claims he was thrown to the floor.

The lawsuit maintains that the CTA owed a duty to exercise due care and caution for passenger safety. The CTA also operated a bus without “adequate brakes” and was negligent in properly maintaining the vehicle so that it was not in a dangerous condition. The bus was also traveling too fast for traffic conditions.
Baden alleges that he suffered severe and permanent injuries when he was thrown to the floor of the bus, becoming “sick, sore, lame and disordered. In addition, he lost earnings and and incurred medical expenses for treatment of his injuries.

He is asking for damages in excess of $50,000.
