Feigenholtz Joins Local Condominium Owners for Discussion on Legal Rights and Association Involvement

CHICAGO, Ill. – To help local condominium owners learn more about board membership and the nuances of condominium law, state Rep. Sara Feigenholtz, D-Chicago, hosted a Roundtable Discussion for Condominium Owners on Monday evening at Center on Halsted in Lakeview. Over 35 attendees joined the discussion led by Sima Kirsch, an attorney with over 30 years practicing in the area of community association law.

“As a condo owner myself, I appreciate the unique challenges that condominium owners are faced with,” Feigenholtz said. “These roundtables are an excellent opportunity to collaborate with fellow condo owners and address issues such as forcing special meetings, legal resources, and education and training for board members.”

Feigenholtz is the chief cosponsor of HB 4204, which creates the Office of the Condominium Ombudsperson, an office which would offer training and educational materials and courses to condominium unit owners and condominium associations. The Office of the Condominium Ombudsperson would also provide a toll-free telephone number, a website, and alternative means of resolving condominium disputes to reduce the need for costly private litigation.

“Every condominium association handles their scheduling, bylaws, and disputes differently, so it’s important to get a comprehensive look at your legal options and rights as a property owner,” Feigenholtz said. “Thank you to Sima Kirsch for joining us tonight and giving everyone the personal attention and helpful advice they deserve.”
