Gill Park Playlot Opens In Lake View

The new play area includes four slides, six swings, a play house and many other features.

CHICAGO — After years of community fundraising, new playground has opened in north Lake View near Buena Park. The Gill Park playlot, 825 West Sheridan, includes new rubber and artificial turf climbing mounds, four slides, new swings (three belt swings, two tot swings and one ADA swing), a multi-deck play structure with monkey bars and a play house.

The new space also includes a "parkour" play structure, balance posts and beams, a spinner seat, log beams and stumps, and upside-down trees.

The area around the new playground was also revamped, with a new ornamental fence and gate, outcropping stone seating areas and a picnic table.

"We owe a big thanks to community members, including Alan Bell, who fundraised for years to make this project a reality," said Ald. James Cappleman in a letter to residents. "46th Ward menu funds and donations from Cubs Charities also made this project possible."

A ribbon cutting was held for the new playlot last week.
