Idiot Does a Backflip into the Chicago River

Bridge shenanigans after Lollapalooza posted to YouTube.

Some dude did a backflip into the Chicago River after leaving Lollapalooza Saturday night.

Keegan Goudie, who blogs at MajorOnions.com, writes: “I was walking through River North after a successful day two of Lollapalooza, and ran into these dudes. We started chatting, and within five seconds I noticed that one of the dudes was soaking wet from head to toe. His friends insisted that it’s because he just back-flipped off of the Columbus Street bridge walking back from the festival ... They sent me the video, which was awesome.”

That video, on YouTube, is full of profanity. A second video, shot from the riverbank, is embedded here.

You can hear passersby shouting at the jumper “don’t do it.”

Someone else eggs him on: “Just do it, just do it. Pretend like you’re in Cancun or something.”

The jumper at one point says “I don’t want to go to jail” before his backflip into the cold and dirty water.

It is illegal to swim in the Chicago River.

And really, no one in their right mind would want to. The Metropolitan Water Reclamation District says bacteria in the river water — “disease-causing and fecal” — is usually at a very high level.

Worse than swirling your head in a toilet.
