Illinois Council Against Handgun Violence Creates Call to Action to End Gun Violence with Powerful Unforgotten Campaign

The Campaign Features Eight Visually Jarring, Life-Like Statues That Were Created By Working Closely With Victims’ Families
Why: As spring approaches, violent crimes and gun violence are bound to spike along with the temperature. This is a widely accepted fact that affects the entire country, and truly hits home in Chicago, where one organization is hoping to make a difference. The Illinois Council Against Handgun Violence (ICHV) is making a plea to end gun violence in a meaningful way with an innovative new public awareness campaign titled “Unforgotten.”

What: Unforgotten will include a website with ways to get involved like signing a petition, joining a rally and volunteering, video documentary and traveling art installation that memorializes and celebrates the lives of victims of gun violence. The campaign features eight visually jarring, life-like statues that were created by working closely with victims’ families – like Ryanne Mace, who was shot and killed at Northern Illinois University on Feb. 14, 2008. Dressed in the victims’ personal clothing, they represent the images of their fallen loved ones.
Who: ICHV Executive Director Colleen Daley is available to discuss this solvable national public health and safety problem. And Mary Kay Mace, mother of Ryanne Mace, along with family members of other victims, also are available to discuss the impact of gun violence, why they support the Unforgotten campaign, and how people can help make a difference.
