Lakeview Pantry Invites Community to Walk with them at Annual Hunger Walk
Lakeview Pantry needs your help to raise awareness and funds to fight hunger in Lakeview during this month's 30th annual Hunger Walk.

Lakeview Pantry, Lakeview’s largest and oldest emergency food distribution center, is inviting the entire Lakeview community to join them for the 30th annual Hunger Walk – a free 5k stroll from Soldier Field along the lakefront on Saturday, June 20 to benefit organizations that provide food to those in need.
“For 45 years Lakeview Pantry has been a place where the Lakeview community has come together to ensure everyone has enough to eat,” said Dan Laytin, President of Lakeview Pantry’s Board of Directors and Co-Captain of Lakeview Pantry’s Hunger Walk team. “The Hunger Walk is an opportunity to continue this tradition – for people of all ages and abilities to join together and support the Pantry while also raising awareness about hunger in Chicago.”
Celebrating its 30th year in 2015, the Hunger Walk, hosted by the Greater Chicago Food Depository, kicks off at 8:30 a.m. at Soldier Field.

Every person who walks on Lakeview Pantry’s behalf earns $12 in food credit at the Greater Chicago Food Depository – which is where the Pantry purchases 45 percent of the 1.6 million pounds of food it distributes each year.
This year’s Hunger Walk, in particular, is especially significant as the Pantry — one of the founding member agencies of the Greater Chicago Food Depository — celebrates its 45th year in Lakeview. It also recently purchased its first permanent building, cementing its place in the Lakeview neighborhood.

“This has really been a milestone year for us,” said Rob Cappucci, former President of Lakeview Pantry’s Board of Directors and Co-Captain of the Pantry’s Hunger Walk team. “We could not think of a better way to celebrate than to do what we do best: ensuring everyone has enough to eat.”
