Peaceful End to 6-Hour Police Standoff in Portage Park

A man barricaded himself in a house early Sunday morning. No one was injured in the incident.

CHICAGO, IL — A six-hour police standoff in Portage Park ended peacefully with no one hurt Sunday morning, according to the Chicago Tribune.

At around 12:50 a.m., a man barricaded himself in a home in the 5500 block of West Byron Street when police arrived at that address, the report stated. Eventually, he walked out of the house at around 7:15 a.m. and surrendered to officers, the report added.

There was no one else in the house with the man, and he did not talk about weapons during the standoff, the report stated. Police will not charge the man in the incident, the report added.

After he surrendered, the man was taken to Presence Saints Mary and Elizabeth Medical center, the Tribune reports. He likely faces a mental health evaluation there, according to the report.
