Urine Trouble: Puddles of Pee Cost the Weak Bladdered $6 Million in Chicago

A DNAinfo report locates where Chicago police hand out the most public urination tickets. And the winning puddle spot should be no surprise.

Maybe Cubs games have gotten so exciting that fans can’t hold it until they get home.

Maybe it’s all those overflowing urinals at Wrigley Field from earlier in the season.

Or maybe it’s more proof of that old saying: You don’t buy beer; you rent it.

At least, those are the conclusions you could draw considering the number of citations issued by Chicago police to individuals because they made the decision to use the city’s streets, alleys and storefronts as personal urinals.

DNAinfo recently mapped the locations around Chicago where police recorded the most public urination tickets. The top spot for offenders to relieve themselves: 940 W. Addison St., near Wrigley. Police wrote out 77 public urination tickets since 2013, according to DNAinfo’s findings. Those citations racked up $20,750 in fines.

And that’s some of the reasoning why Mayor Rahm Emmanuel encouraged the Chicago City Council to raise the fines against public urination, maxing out at $1,000. Those fines bring in about $6 million to the city, the report stated. Good luck in seeing more public restrooms, portable toilets or even the use of urine-resistant paint, which is being used in San Francisco.

  • Alley near 22 E. Roosevelt Road: 59 tickets, $18,400 in fines
  • Alley near 6316 S. Ashland Road: 46 tickets, $12,950 in fines
