WATCH: Chicago Cubs Raise World Series Banner Before Home Opener
Despite Monday's rain delay, the Cubs proved their still magical on an already magical night with a walk-off win.

CHICAGO, IL — After more than a century, what's another wait of 60 minutes or so? That's how long Chicago Cubs fans had to bide their time during a rain delay that pushed back the ceremony to raise the World Series banner before the team's home opener Monday at Wrigley Field.

Rain had been falling off and on around Chicago for most of the day, but a downpour moved in just before the game's scheduled first pitch at 7:05 p.m. Monday, April 10. Although the rain stopped just before 8 p.m., temperatures began dropping into the 40s after being in the 70s.

While crews prepared Wrigley Field for the pregame ceremony and the actual game between the Los Angeles Dodgers, fans watched retired Cubs' catcher David Ross — a beloved member of last year's championship team who will be on hand for Wednesday's ring ceremony — perform live during Monday's episode of "Dancing With the Stars" on ballpark's Jumbotron screen.
The game finally got under way just before 9 p.m., and the Cubs reminded fans that, on a magical night, they're still a magical team. In fact, first baseman Anthony Rizzo, the man who carried out the World Series trophy Monday night, carried off the team with a home-opening win. His walk-off single in the ninth inning scored pinch hitter John Jay, and Chicago won 3-2.
