The Weiss Waddle Becomes Springtime Tradition

Mother Goose nests at Weiss Memorial Hospital, waddles to Lake Michigan with flock

It has become a springtime tradition in Chicago’s North Side Uptown neighborhood. A couple of lovebirds – affectionately named Weezie and George – take up residence at Weiss Memorial Hospital, atop its parking garage. It’s a place where much planting takes place as part of the community Rooftop Farm.

Weezie does her own planting of sorts. The Mother Goose laid eggs, which hatched in late April. She and George have raised 6 goslings for weeks before leading them to greater waters - larger than their kiddie pool, now a seasonal staple in their nesting area.

The featured family has become quite the social media sensation as hospital staff, patients and neighbors watched the weeks-long story of the goslings growing and learning life in their new world on Weiss’ Facebook page.

For the third year now, the gaggle at the hospital along the shores of Lake Michigan did the "The Weiss Waddle" down the parking garage ramp to Montrose Harbor, where they jumped into more familiar waters for their species. Until next spring, Weezie and George!
