• Firefighters rescue cat after house fire leaves family homeless in Mundelein (lakemchenryscanner.com) — Lake Zurich firefighters were among several departments that helped Mundelein crews battle a basement house fire that left a family homeless but spared their cat. No one was injured, and the cat was rescued in good condition as 22 firefighters brought the blaze under control in about 20 minutes.
