The Printed Blog was initially launched in Chicago and San Francisco in January 2009 with a simple idea in mind- to cultivate a distinctive take on citizen journalism, highlighting the views of multiple communities through the eyes of the people actually living them. The publication is the world’s only printed magazine that publishes blogs and other online content.

The Printed Blog has made a bilateral commitment: to both expose the best content the web has to offer - the most poetic, heartbreaking, funny, controversial, informative - and to make sure that the value of this content is captured in a format that commands the attention it deserves. They even made a commitment to reserve a percentage of their budget to help their contributing bloggers and photographers; a gesture they believe creates a standard while simultaneously supporting a community that is often undervalued. If you have something to say that is well written, The Printed Blog will publish it — in print.
“Our vision was to bring the expansive blogger community together in one central location, while highlighting the best articles and writers in a traditional marketplace - print. By allowing our bloggers the credence and credit they deserve on and off the internet, we created a new category of demand for print publishing and it’s very exciting!”, noted Beverly Kim, Managing Editor for The Printed Blog.
With highly regarded bloggers such as Jenny Lawson, a.k.a. The Bloggess, White Girl Problems author Babe Walker, and former Men’s Fitness editor and media personality Neal Boulton all serving as contributing writers, and controversial celebrity photographer Tyler Shields - currently dating Clint Eastwood’s daughter Francesca - holding dual roles as both photography editor and co-founder, The Printed Blog’s Kickstarter potential is definitely within reach.
For every $100 donated to the campaign, The Printed Blog will commit 30 minutes of community service to five Chicago organizations including: PAWS Chicago, The Greater Chicago Food Depository, Bicycle Works, 826CHI and Everybody Dance Now. With the ask ranging from as little as $10 to as much as $10,000 with various types of involvement and benefit, The Printed Blog team could be donating as much as 125 hours of community service.
Pledges garnered from the Kickstarter campaign will be used to begin the production of a 3-issue series of The Printed Blog, which includes content gathering, printing, mailing, and the paying of our wonderful bloggers and photographers $50 for their published contributions. Pledges will also help to fund publicity and the development of non-invasive advertising contracts to allow The Printed Blog to become a self-sustaining publication.
Pledges range from as little as $10 to as much as $10,000 all offering various types of involvement.
