Dispute Brewing Over Land Annexation

Lake Zurich has been involved in an annexation dispute with Hawthorn Woods for more than a year.

A legal fight over a boundary agreement between Lake Zurich and Hawthorn Woods has been brewing for more than a year over properties at Route 22 and Quentin Road.

A border clash between the villages of ο»Ώ and Hawthorn Woods centers around the ο»Ώ property at the northwest corner of Route 22 and Quentin Road. The property in question has been owned by Charlene Wooten and her son Dennis since 1984. They run .

The dispute has been playing out in the Lake County courts for the last couple of months and relates to a 13-year-old boundary agreement between the two municipalities.

In June, Lake County Judge Mitchell Hoffman issued a temporary restraining order prohibiting Hawthorn Woods and Lake Zurich from annexing the property into their respective villages. Then, after depositions from Lake Zurich, Hawthorn Woods and Dennis Wooten in July, Hoffman entered a preliminary injunction that upheld the June decision.
