Lake Zurich Entrepreneur to Be Featured on NBC

Nancy Camacho is only woman in Lake County selected to participate in Athena Power Link Women's network program.

Nancy Camacho, Lake Zurich entrepreneur and resident, will be featured on the 6 a.m.-8 a.m., Sunday, Feb. 20, morning newscast on NBC Channel 5. That’s because Camacho is the only woman in Lake County to have been selected to participate in the Athena Power Link Women’s network mentoring program.

She is the owner of 100 B Oakwood Drive. Elegant Embroidery provides custom logos and design. Melon Ink offers screen printing, custom t-shirts, caps, uniforms and bags.

To become a part of the program, the business owner has to apply and provide a business plan, she explained. Then, the recipient gets a one-year mentorship comprised of other successful business owners in various fields legal, marketing, social media and an IT person.

“It really gave me the kick that I needed,” Camacho said. The Athena program helped her focus more strongly on her goals.

The national organization selects one woman-owned business regionally to be mentored by professional women in business. The goal of the program is to support, develop, and honor women leaders, inspire them to achieve their fullest potential and create balance and leadership worldwide.

“I encourage any other women in business or in network groups to apply,” she said.

Participating in the Athena program has lead Camacho to decide to transition her two businesses into just one. So, soon, the company will just be known as Melon Ink.

Camacho, a Lake Zurich resident for 23 years, started her company 15 years ago in Wauconda with 1,500 square feet of space. Her company now occupies 3,000 square feet and has two full-time and three part-time employees.  She also serves on the Lake Zurich Area Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors.
