Mayor’s Special Events Task Force Recruiting Members

Promoting the arts, parks and other community activities are goals of the new initiative.

A Special Events Task Force is being formed with a goal to include Lake Zurich organizations that would help to establish a variety of activities and events for residents.

At the Village Board's March 19 meeting, Mayor Suzanne Branding said she is looking to bring in representatives from , the , the , the and other groups in the village.

“I’m looking for some basic, win-win special events, and I would like to include community groups who can take an idea and run with it,” Branding said.

Among the ideas Branding proposed were to have garden plots created in community parks and starting an Arts in the Park event during the annual Lions Club Alpine Fest.

“The Lions Club could take the lead (on the Arts in the Park event), and artwork from District 95 students could be showcased. We have some talented artists right here in Lake Zurich,” Branding said.

A number of trustees contributed their thoughts as well.

“I suggest including Eagle Scouts, since many times they are looking for service projects — and possibly incorporating the garden plots with the annual Arbor Day celebration,” said Trustee Jonathan Sprawka.

Trustee Rich Sustich said homeowners associations throughout Lake Zurich also should be included in the task force, with the possibility of having a string of events that would serve to promote the village’s 32 parks.

Trustee Jeff Halen said the Garden Club, which also maintains the garden at Celebration Park, should be included.

Task forces created by the mayor serve in an advisory capacity.

Going forward, Village Attorney Carlos Arevalo said event ideas and proposals first should be presented to the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board; final approval would come from the Village Board.
