Residents Asked to Participate In Water Survey

To better understand how residents of the Village of Lake Zurich use and value water, and to inform the creation of an integrated water resources plan, village leaders are encouraging every resident to take a short survey about household water usage and local water concerns.

Lake Zurich faces several important water management decisions, from the future source of its water supply to strategies to reduce local flooding. This summer, village leaders are partnering with a team of experts who will provide objective analysis and advice to assist with the development of an integrated water resources plan. The plan will address every aspect of Lake Zurich’s water, including its water supply, wastewater treatment, and storm water and flooding management. The team is comprised of the Metropolitan Planning Council, Center for Neighborhood Technology, Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning, Illinois-Indiana Sea Grant, and University of Illinois Extension. The project team also includes a task force of experts in engineering, economics, ecology, urban planning, communications, and education, all of whom are providing pro bono assistance.

Residents who wish to take the survey and influence Lake Zurich’s water choices should visit http://svy.mk/lzwater. The URL is also being distributed through Lake Zurich’s water bills, and residents will be able to take the survey through August 2011. The survey consists of 30 multiple choice questions, and should take about 10 minutes to complete. Input on this survey will help the project team as it develops recommendations, and results will be presented at a public meeting this fall that will gather additional input from the community.
