Students Raise Thousands For Suicide Prevention

An effort led by the Lake Zurich High School Student Council resulted in a check for more than $30,000 presented to Elyssa's Mission.

LAKE ZURICH, IL – Students in the Lake Zurich Community Unit School District 95 raised more than $30,000 for an organization that works to prevent suicide. Members of the Lake Zurich High School Student Council presented a check for $32,297 to Elyssa's Mission on Jan. 24, money raised from an effort that included fundraising activities held at all eight schools in the district.

The Student Council spearheaded the effort in December, according to a news release from District 95. Elyssa's Mission, a non-profit based in Northbrook, will use the funds to bring suicide prevention programming to 15 other schools in the Chicagoland area.

This year's student charity effort is part of the ongoing Lake Zurich High School Charity Bash, of which activities have raised nearly $500,000 for various charitable organizations over the past 15 years.
