-20 Wind Chill For Freezing New Year's Eve, Plus A Supermoon
The start of the new year will feature some record cold temperatures.

Illinois will ring in the new year with some freezing cold temperatures. The National Weather Service has issued a wind chill advisory starting at 9 p.m. Sunday through 12 p.m. Tuesday. The advisory includes the cities of Waukegan, Wheaton, Chicago and Joliet.
According to the NWS, very cold wind chills are expected, and you can expect wind chills to range from -20 to -30. Cold wind chills like this can cause frostbite in as little as 30 minutes to exposed skin. Record cold temperatures are possible on New Year's Day, and temperatures are expected to be around -26 degrees on Jan. 1.
According to the NWS, Chicago's Jan. 1 record cold lowest minimum temperature was -10 degrees in 1969.

New Year's Day will also feature a supermoon, including in the Midwest. The Jan. 1-2 supermoon can be seen around 8:24 p.m. on Jan. 1, if local weather conditions allow. There will also be another supermoon at the end of the month, on Jan. 31.
