40 Ways to Prepare for the Resurrection During Lent

Local families are invited to deepen their faith this Lenten season with practical and meaningful ways to prepare for Easter.

The season of Lent is a sacred journey toward the joy of Easter and the celebration of Christ’s Resurrection. These forty days invite us to prayer, sacrifice, and renewal so that when Easter morning arrives, our hearts are ready to rejoice fully.

Here are 40 meaningful ways to prepare spiritually, practically, and intentionally for the Resurrection:

Prayer

  1. Begin each day with a morning offering.
  2. Spend 10 extra minutes in silent prayer.
  3. Pray the Rosary once a week.
  4. Attend daily Mass when possible.
  5. Participate in Eucharistic Adoration.
  6. Pray the Stations of the Cross weekly.
  7. Read the daily Gospel.
  8. Keep a Lenten prayer journal.
  9. Pray for someone who is difficult to love.
  10. End each day with an examination of conscience.

Sacrifice

  1. Fast from social media one day a week.
  2. Give up complaining.
  3. Choose patience in moments of frustration.
  4. Skip a favorite treat and offer it up.
  5. Practice intentional silence in the car.
  6. Wake up 15 minutes earlier for prayer.
  7. Avoid unnecessary purchases.
  8. Choose gratitude instead of criticism.
  9. Offer small inconveniences to God.
  10. Fast from negative self-talk.

Service

  1. Donate to a local food pantry.
  2. Volunteer as a family.
  3. Write letters of encouragement.
  4. Reach out to someone who feels alone.
  5. Forgive someone you’ve been holding resentment toward.
  6. Perform one hidden act of kindness each day.
  7. Visit or call an elderly relative.
  8. Support a pregnancy center or charitable cause.
  9. Pray intentionally for the sick.
  10. Serve joyfully at home without being asked.

Formation

  1. Read a spiritual book during Lent.
  2. Study the Passion narratives in the Gospels.
  3. Learn about the meaning of the Triduum.
  4. Go to the Sacrament of Reconciliation.
  5. Teach children about the symbolism of Lent.
  6. Memorize a Scripture verse.
  7. Reflect on Christ’s sacrifice on Good Friday.
  8. Prepare your home with simple Lenten decor.
  9. Plan how your family will celebrate Easter meaningfully.
  10. Ask God to show you where He wants to bring new life into your heart.

Lent is not about perfection—it is about preparation. Through prayer, sacrifice, service, and growth, we clear space in our hearts for Christ. When we walk intentionally through these forty days, the joy of Easter becomes more than a date on the calendar—it becomes a true celebration of renewal, hope, and Resurrection.
