43 Cats Up For Adoption At Ruby Whiskers Animal Rescue Event

LEMONT, IL — Ruby Whiskers Animal Rescue will hold its first cat adoption event at Pet Supplies Plus in Homer Glen on Saturday.

The Lemont animal rescue said 43 cats will be up for adoption at the event, which will be held from noon to 4 p.m.

Most of the cats at the event are under 5 years old, except for one cat named Callie, Ruby Whiskers Founder Kim Arias told Patch.

Callie was relinquished by her owner at an "overcrowded shelter" in Kentucky, Arias said. Arias happened to be at the shelter when Callie was brought in, and ended up taking her back to Illinois.

She said the cat was "terrified" when brought into the shelter, and she couldn't leave her there.

"She is fully vetted and needs a quiet home with her people/person," Arias said, adding that she is dog-friendly and OK with other cats if they don't bother her.

"We have 45 [cats] in our care currently and so many more are waiting at shelters, so the more we adopt, the more we can get out of the shelter," Arias said.

Adoptions can be done on-site at the event on Saturday. Arias said adopters will fill out an application on-site, and references and vets will be called immediately during the event. If adopters have other pets, the rescue will need to ensure the other pets are up-to-date on sterilization and vaccines.

Pet Supplies Plus is located at 12845 W. 143rd St., in Homer Glen.
