Abraham Lincoln and the Illinois & Michigan Canal: Traveling Exhibit
This exhibit will be shown in the Meeting Room during regular library hours, from February 14th through March 14th.
Abraham Lincoln believed that the Illinois & Michigan Canal promoted the settlement and growth of northern Illinois. Ultimately the canal made a once small settlement, Chicago, thrive and become a major transportation and economic center for the entire nation. This exhibit explores Abraham Lincoln's connection to the I&M Canal to his desire to expand it during his Presidency. Presented in partnership with the Canal Corridor Association and the Canal Alliance.
